Find Balance – Would Love to, But Who Has The Time

In my own life one of the important realizations was that balance is possible and it was mine if I wanted it. What followed was a fair amount of self-reflection, openness, and honesty with myself. Setting aside time to explore my definition of balance, by questioning what was missing and what I was already doing successfully, was time well spent. Since then, I have a good grasp on the various elements of day-to-day life. For me personally knowing my heart and mind are working together is what keeps me balanced. The sense of calm, of being grounded and clearheaded, motivates me to keep my life in balance.

Beyond All Form

I used to objectify myself. I used to reject my own beauty. I was formed to think my body was supposed to be perfect (whatever this means now) and until it isn’t, I shall not see any beauty in it....

This poem is about the true beauty we all possess. About the truth of who we are- caring divine multidimensional beings dwelling in these magnificent magic-making bodies. We are no body parts, no body shapes, no body types, sizes, nor colours.

Life changes and the fluidity of wellbeing

Change is always on the horizon. Big or small, significant or not, a choice we make or a circumstance we have to accept. In this increasingly complex and interconnected world though, the pace of change is rapidly increasing, making many of us feel like we can't catch a breath. Instead, many of us are dealing with multiple work/life changes at the same time, increasing our exposure to prolonged stress.

What is your life metaphor?

What is your life metaphor?

The main reason metaphors are so powerful is because our brain loves images. Research has shown that the brain processes images 60,000 times faster than text!

That’s why we have the saying “an image is worth a thousand words”. Or why writers abide by the golden rule “show, don’t tell”. Or why over 80% of marketing communication is visual these days.

Take a Break To Invest in Yourself

But when last did you take a few weeks to be completely present for you? Be honest with yourself. How often do you check in on your e-mails during your holiday? How often do you check your social media? How often do you chat to your work colleagues on your WhatsApp regarding “urgent matters” that in actual fact almost always can be solved without you? Ultimately, you cannot be present and focus on taking a break if your mind is everywhere except the current moment.

On Environment

This post is just to invite us all to acknowledge and remind ourselves of an undeniable truth: our surroundings, the places and spaces in which we live and operate - from macro (e.g., our country, region, city, natural environment) to meso (e.g., our neighbourhood, home, office) to micro (e.g., our desk, drawer, bedside table) -, and the way we inhabit them and interact with them, play a significant role in our life experience. In return, this can affect each and every other aspect of our life.

So let’s spend a little time playing with the concept of Environment.

On Elephants

My daughter is 2 years old and very fond of elephants.
Her piccolo fante is a tiny grey elephant that has been a favourite in her stable of fluffy friends and is often with her. This must be why my attention is so tuned into elephants around me, not just at home on the floor. I came across a number of elephant idioms and stories over the past two weeks and, I must admit, they brought so much pachydermal insight that I decided to share and celebrate them all as prompts for reflection.

Is health a matter of living our full potential? How “who we are” and “what we do” affect our health.

Is health a matter of living our full potential? How “who we are” and “what we do” affect our health.

We rarely think of our work, our attitude towards life or towards others and ourselves, as being a possible cause for illness. Over the course of many years, I have come to realize that health has another, more hidden aspect: it is connected to us living our true potential as human beings, based on who we are.

Our potential is rather like a muscle: if we don't use it, it shrivels and its energy goes stale. This affects our mental and physical health, leading to anxiety, lack of energy and motivation, but also to more serious diseases.
