5 Reasons why…
Although the world is so positively changing their workplaces to become more inclusive, diverse and equal, many companies are often finding themselves in over their heads. This newly accepted idea of protecting the mental wellbeing of employees and management cannot be taken lightly. Here are 5 reasons why companies should hire educated and trained Mental Health and Behavioral Specialists to consult in their wellbeing and transformation journey to lessen sick days, improve work value and productivity and protect the ones who keep the boat afloat.
Proper, Science-backed Training
Sure there are plenty of workplace issues that can arise which can be handled by Human Resources with no problem. Unfortunately, after the recent few years, many of the workplace discrepancies can be way deeper and way more personal. Mental health and behavioral specialists are able to use science proven methods to communicate more long lasting and effective solutions to these situations, and handle them to achieve a sure solution.
2. In-depth understanding of Individuality and transformation
"We are in the same storm, but not in the same boat."- anonymous. Even though workplace discrepancies might seem very similar on the surface, there is not one specific way to handle the everyone’s issues in the same manner. In order to create a more inclusive, safe space for the individual, we understand the importance of individualizing the approach to mental wellbeing and implementing efficient results.
3. Patience, Patience, Patience
As the world changes, political problems arise, people are struggling with adjustments to new remote workplaces, conversations about gender fluidity, racism, diversity and inclusion are popping up whether you’re ready or not. All of these things are happening anyway. With hiring a mental health or behavioral specialist, you are carefully approaching individuals who are struggling and uncomfortable, in a tender and empathetic way. Humans adjust best when they learn at their pace and their own way, and only if they feel it is truly beneficial to themselves. The conversations will have a more meaningful, relatable approach and will expand the mindset of the employees for a safer, more effective environment.
4. Avoiding the Herd concept
Although workshops with generic points made on a slide show can sometimes be effective, more likely than not.. they are actually turning more employees away from the topic. We are not a unified herd who learns and receives information all the same way. With hiring mental health and behavioral specialists, you are opening the doors to more intimate, empathetic approaches on what is most suitable for the employee’s wellbeing. We understand that while Yoga and meditation can work for some, most others are in need of something a little more personally dedicated.
5. Mental Health is REAL & it's our job to protect it
After watching so many companies jump head first into creating Diversity & Inclusion, People Development and Wellness roles… I have often seen many of these roles and departments ultimately come crashing down due to lack of preparedness, experience, and knowledge. Hiring someone who is dedicated solely to creating wellbeing programs and journeys in order to promote a healthy, inclusive workplace, should be educated on how the mind truly works. The approach can not be generic, it cannot be an umbrella with no specificity, and it cannot be done by someone who is either not educated or has not experienced trauma of their own. There is a science to the mind and what it becomes focused on, and we are trained to change it.
